AN ODE TO THE SMILES INTO SCHOOLS A Project of RI District 3230

AN ODE  TO THE
SMILES INTO SCHOOLS
(A Project of RI District 3230)
God Himself seemed to be
In the laughter of the poor
And the smile of the low
To revered Anna, our leader of yore.

To ease the pain of studies
To those like cattle stacked
      In schools with scant comforts
Toilets or even books and desks.

Rtn Benji and his team
Good Samaritans one and all
Into the fray did step
And chose ten schools to help

The Then Governor of the District 3230 of
The Rotary International
Where his clout was mighty
Benji and the rest of his dedicated Band
Took these schools to study.

Schools poor and ill-equipped
That fostered the children lowly
To whom studies were a luxury
And not a great priority.

The Matching Grants Projects did help
In bettering the basic amenities
Water to drink, toilets to use
And chairs and desks to study.

Teachers too were trained
And equipped more to reach
And hold the mind of youngsters
So that with life they could deal later.

Steady as a tortoise
The schools slowly improved
With new confidence and strength
Ventured into sport and pastime too.

The schools rose in number
Their strength too did improve
So great was their success
That to Africa they moved.

Others too did help
Organizations which saw the success
Of this programme to help
Children study in dignity and comfort.

Healthier, happier the surrounding
That these children now study in
Rtn Benji the children’s true “anna”
Has shown himself a real visionary.

May their tribe increase because in each
One of them I see the glimpses of
Mother Teresa
